2025 Small Business Saturday
Small Business Saturday is right around the corner on Saturday, November 29! The annual national event, founded by American Express in 2010, is a vital celebration of the importance of supporting the local economy by shopping at small businesses.
Since its inception, the event has brought over $200 billion in reported sales nationwide to America’s small businesses on this day alone—2023 seeing about $17 billion spent at local restaurants and retailers. With “Black Friday” shopping now dominated by online giants and mass retailers, Small Business Saturday stands out for spotlighting unique, hands-on service and local craftsmanship.
Franklin Southampton Economic Development, Inc. (FSEDI) is once again a Neighborhood Champion for the annual Small Business Saturday event in our community, promoting 26 local businesses through a wrap and other local and regional advertising, as well as promoting contests related to Small Business Saturday and shopping locally on this important day right after the Thanksgiving holiday.
From signature Virginia peanuts to antiques, our local shops deliver one-of-a-kind goods and knowledgeable service you won’t find from an online order. Recent years have brought even more excitement—companies like Hubs, Feridies, and Belmont Peanuts continue to grow new retail and restaurant offerings, supporting more local jobs and attracting both travelers and new residents. Daily, over 20,000 vehicles pass through Franklin Southampton on US-58 and another 11,000 on US-460—each representing future shoppers and friends for our community businesses.
